Story
Boku Dake ga Inai Machi, the story from this anime is following
our main character, Fujinuma Satoru, he has the ability to go back in time to prevent
disasters from occurring which he calls it “Revival”.
However, Satoru
is involved in an incident which forces him to go back into time, but this time
to 1988, 18 years in the past where he must solve a murder mystery in order to
change the future. He must uncover the details of the murder of a girl in grade
school, because everything that happen in the past have connection to the
future.
Okay, after
finishing all episodes. I can say the plot of BokuMachi is superbly written,
and the pacing from story is perfect, each episode packed full of action and
each ending leaving you craving for the next episode. There are so many dark
themes, from murder, child abuse, and kidnapping, to taking responsibility and
appreciating the things you have. The way this show delves into it's themes
without holding back makes this show shine, and I think it’s what make so many
people can enjoy the story, especially how they make us curious? It’s something
that we will always feel from every episode. In fact, it’s formatted so
perfectly that I almost couldn’t resist reading the manga just to solve the
mystery for myself.
You have to know, I
thought the manga have more detailed story than the anime. So
I suggest all of you to read the manga and watch the anime. You can see the
different between them and you can compare it too.
However, the
story is great but I don’t say if they have no flaws. For me, their story is a little
bit predictable. Just from first episode, we can guess what will be happen
although not so many of them we can predict and it’s true. Beside it, talking
about revival ability. There is no expalanation how Satoru can have this
ability or why he can’t control it? So many people might be realize about this
flaws because the one who have this ability is only Satoru and it’s weird, but
even so, I can see for some positive people, they can say they looked this
revival just as tools for create the story, not for asked why or how, because
that's not matter. This anime used this thing very well.
Well, I
think enough from story… despite their flaws, their story is something great
for me, so I will give 9 for story.
Character
Character, I have to say not only Satoru that have a lot of character
development and interesting points here, but all the supporting characters are
also likable. The interactions between all of them were really refreshing, and
each character had their own separate characteristics, making them stand out
from other side characters from other shows. It was like they were real life
people, with their own mindsets and ideas. For
example Kayo's mother is mentally ill person, Satoru's mother is very
intelligent reporter, Airi is very nice friend, Satoru's friends are just like
everyone's friends from elementary school. Those characters are really realistic
and It’s all make all of them have important roles to build the course of the
story.
Not much thing I can say for character point. I just can say, no one character
here is useless, so I will give 9 for character.
Animation
The studio that producing this anime is A-1 Pictures… Beside
producing BokuMachi, this season A-1 pictures producing Hai to Gensou no
Grimgar and GATE 2nd season.
Okay… I think A-1 Pictures really have a great job for this
season, they have produce 3 anime and all of them become top rank anime this
winter. For Bokumachi itself, one thing that makes this show incredible to
watch is the atmosphere. The art really synergizes with the mood and enforces
the thriller and dramatic aspects of it tremendously. It's really got that
suspenseful feel, and it supports the story very well. The animation is also
well executed, the show is able to use different animation and angle techniques
to intensify the atmosphere. Maybe the animation isn’t something amazing or
masterpiece but we can say this is the right animation for drama and mystery
anime. So I can give 7.5 for Animation.
Sound
The opening song from this anime is "Re:Re:"
by Asian Kung-Fu Generation and the
ending is "Sore wa
Chiisana Hikari no Youna" by Sayuri.
Well, the opening and ending are very good, they become popular in
this season. So many people love both opening and ending, especially Asian
Kung-Fu Generation. For myself, they remind me to my Junior High School. If you
know “Haruka Kanata” from Naruto Opening, I’m really falling in love to their
opening since then.
Another thing that make the opening interesting is Re:Re was released from 2004’s album! Although it's released in the past but the music and lyrics can be fit with the animation.
The
soundtracks from BokuMachi is amazing as well. The great variety of background
musics empowers each scene, whether it's a sad or a catastrophic scene. Each of
the tracks appeals to any number of human emotions and adds to the atmosphere
of the story and scenes, then the seiyuu too, I like them… Overall, I don’t
have any problem with sound, so I will give 9 for sound.
Enjoyment
Enjoyment, not much to say here, Bokumachi never fails to be interesting and gripping, I have enjoyed
every second of this anime. Like what I said before, every one episode
finished, It’s really make me curious to watch the next episode, I want to know
what will be happen but what can I do, this anime just release once per week.
Despite, their flaws in the story, but all this feels becomes a testament, how
I’m enjoying this anime so much, so I will give 10 for enjoyment.
Overall
Counting
the scores from the story, characters, animation, sound, and my own personal
enjoyment. Overall I will give 9 for Boku Dake ga Inai Machi. The
anime adaptation is based on manga and
the manga already finished too, so this anime doesn’t need 2nd
season anymore.
After all, If you need recommendation anime with same genre like
BokuMachi, my recommendation is Steins; Gate
Both of them revolve
around the same idea of someone trying to change the future, then both protagonists
look bland but actually they’re great character, both of
them have quirky looking & realistic characters too, and of course, both of them have. fantastic story that can make us curious
to watch every episodes.
Okay, I think
enough from me… Thanks for reading~
